The Crossings received the 2012 Virginia Housing Award for the Best Affordable Housing Energy Conservation Effort. The award was presented at the Governor’s conference on Housing at the Hotel Roanoke in Roanoke, VA on Friday, November 15th. The building is a 60 unit, single room occupancy multi-family building to house low income residents in Charlottesville, VA. Building features included a highly insulated envelope, a high efficiency HVAC system, a 36 kW solar electric array that will provide at least 20% of the buildings electricity needs, and a 900 tube solar hot water heating system that will provide approximately 90% of the buildings hot water heat.
